For the first time anywhere, BBE reissues back-to-back two rare LPs that many Afro heads doubted their very existence until now, Wakar Alhazai Kano 9 & Mus’En Sofua.
Wakar Alhazai Kano 9 & Mus’En Sofua is composed of four incredible slices of almost undiscovered late-70s/early 80s Igbo and Hausa afrobeat—two very different and rarely heard styles—that don’t even sound like Fela’s Yoruba/Pidgin afrobeat. The beats are laid down by the seven legendary Martins Brothers (of “Money” fame) whilst vocals are courtesy of a multilingual Igbo legend, Prof. Goddy Ezike, one of the most extraordinary voices out of Africa, up there with Youssou N’Dour and Salif Keita.
“Aka Ji Ego Ga Anu Nwam” is sung in Igbo, with all the percussive wonders that Igbo culture has to offer, filtered through a jazzy Afrobeat improvisational spectrum.
Wakar Alhazai Kano 9 & Mus’En Sofua, available since February 21, 2020, via BBE Africa. Discover the artwork below and listen to it here.
